Steering Group & Advisory Group

• Co-organising the next WLCG/HSF Workshop, to take place on 2-6 November 2026 in Bologna.

• Currently reworking the Affiliation programme based on gathered experience from recent reviews and from community feedback. News in due time, though you are of course very welcome to email the SG with your suggestions/comments.

AI in contributions to HSF repositories

So far HSF repositories do not provide any statement on AI-powered/-helped contributions, and we are starting to get some. On occasions we can be flooded by not-to-useful contributions. This year an “AI statement” is strongly suggested in GSoC proposals. We should do something similar.

Suggestion to update the website how-to with a statement on AI and how we will be dealing with “spam”.

HSF Seminar Series and Compute Accelerator Forum

Planned HSF seminars:

• Seminar by Kati Lassila-Perini (chair) on ICFA Data Lifecycle panel best practice recommendations: [29th April]
• Seminar on HS3 has been postponed. Future date TBC.
• 2nd in series on AI-assisted SW tools organised by software tools & packaging - possibly separate seminar organised with sustainability group.

Seminars beyond April?

• Probably no seminar in May: Clashes with CHEP.
• Should consider topic ideas inspired by CHEP 2026 (speakers would have material ready).

Papers

• Training on Data Analysis Reproducibility via Containerization with Apptainer. It was submitted to The Journal of Open Source Education, JOSE, and to the arXiv: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2604.06244.

Physics Generators

• Following up on two GSoC projects on negative weight mitigation in ATLAS and MCFM.
  • Received excellent applications and selected two top candidates from our side.

PyHEP

• PyHEP.dev 2026 is fixed: Sep 7-9, at Nikhef, Amsterdam.
  • Indico page etc. will follow soon in coordination with the Nikhef contacts.
  • During PyHEP.dev Peter F. will do a ~1h seminar talk at Nikhef about our PyHEP activities (Sep 8).

JuliaHEP

• Planning meeting today at 16:00 CERN time.
  • JuliaHEP 2026 will be in Munich, October 19-23. We will start advertising the event this week!
  • JuliaCon 2026 - JuliaHEP Mini-Symposium - Julia for Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics: From Precision Science to High-Performance Tools.
    • Scheduled for the Monday Morning (Aug 10).

Software Developer Tools and Packaging

• Mail exchange with people from “HEP Packaging Coordination” project.
  • Candidate to become HSF affilated project.
  • Packaging focused HSF seminar together with possible contributions from EIC and FCC people.

AOB

Do not hesitate to get in touch with the SG if you have/know of events useful to add to the HSF calendar. The calendar is used by very many to check for available dates, constraints, and plan events. Thank you in advance.

Physical Constants / HEPdata Library

There is now an early “proof of concept” version: hep-constants. Some generally positive feedback was received, but no further development yet.
